Have you ever read a book of José Saramago?

ENG

Have you ever read a book of José Saramago, a famous Portuguese writer? If you are not one of his funs yet, I highly recommend you to visit the foundation, know about his life, and then read one of his books.

Dense and ironic, intelligent and skeptical, tender and sarcastic, all his novels are concerned of a different point of view of history and with speaking out against the errors of modern life, always taking as their starting point the essential human qualities, solidarity, compassion and respect for others and their opinions. He became known international because of his desire to build a fairer, more human society.

The foundation is settled down in particular building called “Casa de Bicos” (Beak’s House). The house was built on top of Roman ruins which have been buried by an Earthquake. Another curiosity about this place is that José Saramago ashes are scattered in front of the foundation, next to an olive street.

“Our great task is to succeed in becoming more human” José Samarago

Schedule: Monday to Friday from 10 to 18 hs (Last entry - 17.30 hs), Saturday from 10 to 14 hs, Sunday closed.

Domingo Cerrado.
